It's new. It seems to get people to just drop into any session people open. Many of our drivers like it.
So, it is now official.
Champ Car 2007
Josh has already done some setup work, so, ask him for a base setup.
Things to note:
The tires change a LOT, from cold rubber to race temp. The first lap or so is NOT how your car will handle, once it gets up to temp.
The car can easily break the rear loose, so you can't just floor it.
These car do not have the same turn in and braking as an F1 car.
The mod does have some interesting upgrades , when you buy your car. I hear the sound option is very good.
Let's have fun with this !
Now...time to toss a schedule together. Suggestions are welcome. _________________

Here is my Laguna Seca setup I came up with that seemed to get some folks in the 1.05s last night. I've started with this setup at some different tracks and it is a good base all around.

I was thinking about throwing a popular F1 track , in the mix. Yeah, I know the Indy GP course was F1, but I was thinking about one elsewhere in the world. Anyone try these on a big speedway oval ? _________________

An oval wouldn't be such a bad idea. I have never raced on one. |

I've done a few laps at a few of those tracks. It works quite well at all the track I tried. I like this car better, at the USGP at Indy. Once the tires get sticky, you can drive more aggressively than with the F1 car. It's works fine at Mosport too. I tried dialing in a setup at Fontana. I could only get to a top speed of 230mph. I suspect it is still using the road course wing, so the drag is higher than it would be if Panoz had released a speedway wing. We might need to do some drafting tests, but it seemed pretty stable, in and out of the draft.
The only Toronto track I could find is :
This one
Is that the one you want, Thrill21 ? _________________

Ditto.
The turn in is probably comparable to F1, but the brakes aren't IMO if you try the Montreal track that Josh supplied. A different feeling, slightly longer distances and if you miss the mark, you miss the corner
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the mod though. Love it, love it, love it. Just so fun to drive even alone. Fun to drive, but temperamental if you get stupid. One of the best physics packages ever. _________________ -- 2007 : 2009 FiHSF1 Series Champion --- 2007 : 2008 Constructor's Championship Co-driver --- V8 Supercar Series Champion --- Formula BMW Series Champion --

Rather than Sebring, what about Surfers Paradise ?
Surfers 1.42
This one is the newest, but it has some controversy. I guess is was a updated track, based on an unauthorized track. You can read this on the rfactorCentral listing for Surfers. _________________

I've run Long Beach. It's not my favorite track to visit or drive on. I tried to load up EuroSpeedway, but I got gmotor errors. I thought I read somewhere that you need to tell rFactor where to use DirectX 9 or 10 to fix this. _________________

I just ran the Daytona oval. This would be a lot of fun, as it is narrower and a lot more bumpy than, say, California Speedway. But, the high speeds might be a problem with the rear tires. I was really cooking both of them, as you go from about 218 to 232 during the lap.
I also did a few laps at VIR. Virgina Raceway. I had forgotten what that track was like. It has some cool elevation changes, but it's a little narrow and it might be hard to pass. Still, you guys should give it a look. _________________

Here is my new setup that I came up with while running a MidOhio race.
And here is an Oval Setup for pretty much any 1.5 mile + size oval tracks. At Fontana, I have the 6th gear setup to Q with and run by yourself and 7th gear is setup for while in the draft. Needs to be tested for small adjustments tho.
In Fontana with that setup, I get 234 on the front stretch and 233 on the back. _________________

OK.
Here is my suggested list of tracks. I'm not that fond of street races, unless the track is rather open and not just a "Habit Trail" of short spots and few full throttle areas. I would also like a good mix, so I would like an oval. The other goal is popular tracks.
I'd prefer Surfers to Long Beach and an oval in the mix to replace Sebring.
So ... How about this ?
Surfers 1.42 ( Not directly on rFactorCentral, but fixed by someone who lives near the track )
Laguna Seca
California Speedway
Mosport
USGP at Indy
Montreal
Mid-Ohio
Trois Rivieres
Watkins Glen
Sorry, Thrill, I gave Toronto a few laps and really didn't like it. If there is an armed revolt, I could add it.
Now, we need a day of the week. How about Wednesday, for a change ? _________________
